  • Library Competition!

    Mon 24 Sep 2018 Mrs E Roberts

To celebrate the reopening of the library to the children at OCEPs, the school librarians are running a competition to meet Julia Donaldson, Dame Jacqueline Wilson or Chris Riddell! They are appearing at the Children's Festival of Literature: the Three Laureates at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire on Saturday November 3rd.

You need to design an alternative book cover for a story written by one of these authors. These will be displayed in the library, so give it your best shot! Entries are welcome from children across the school. Deadline for entries is Friday 26th October 2018.

  • Democracy Rules at OCEPS!

Tue 18 Sep 2018 Mrs Jo Seker

What a wonderful afternoon we've had in school today as hustings were underway to vote in our new house captains and vice captains. Each house with children from Y1-Y6 met to hear the candidates' speeches. Some excellent and persuasive reasons were given as to why they each thought they would make a good house captain.

In true democratic style, secret voting then took place and the new captains and vice captains were announced for each house. Well done to everyone involved and a special thanks to the staff Heads of House who organised and facilitated the events. Along with the voting, I also heard plans for new house competitions, house celebrations, chants and symbols. It's certainly an exciting time for St. George, St. Patrick, St. David and St. Andrew.

Keep an eye on their webpages for further news and updates.

  • Goldilocks Gets It Juuuust "Write!"

    Thu 13 Sep 2018 Mrs J. Seker

Buddy and I were surprised by an unexpected guest this morning when a striking young lady by the name of Goldilocks skipped past the office, on her way to visit the children in Year 2! She was duly grilled about her behaviour and motives at the three bears' cottage which resulted in the children writing and justifying their opinions of her.

Special thanks go to Miss Tait for being such a good sport (and rocking that blonde, curly wig!) and a huge well done to Oliver and Carter who came to show me their outstanding writing.

  • Giving Hands

    Wed 12 Sep 2018 Mrs J. Seker

This morning, two children from Year 5 attended the official opening of the Giving Hands Mission in Brierley Hill (affiliated with the Black Country Food Bank.) The Mayor of Dudley cut the ribbon which made the event even more special. George who manages the mission gave us a tour of the new facilities. We were in awe of their commitment and the difference they make to local people and families in need.

As such, we are going to become partners with Giving Hands and support the great work they do by donating our Harvest collection to them. Rafael & Ocean in Year 5 are also recruiting 8 more children to join them on a return visit next week to help George and the team pack up some bags of food.

More details will follow shortly for how families at school can help out such a worthy cause.

Special thanks go to Raf & Ocean who represented our school beautifully, introducing themselves to the Mayor and Lady Mayoress as well as enjoying the hospitality of the team at Giving Hands.

  • First days....

Thu 06 Sep 2018 Mrs Jo Seker

I would just like to say how impressed I've been with the way the children have settled back in to the routines and expectations of school life. School is full of energy and enthusiasm and already, the classes are settled and happy.

A special mention goes out to our new Reception children. What a wonderful start to school life they have already made. Buddy, our school therapy dog, paid a special first visit to the new classes and was greeted with lots of enthusiasm, strokes and cuddles. Thank you to Mrs Roberts, Miss Cross and the team who have done a marvellous job of welcoming and settling our new starters. I predict a very exciting year ahead!

In our first assembly of the year, the children gave thought to our school ethos and vision, considering the 'fullness of life' and what really counts as being rich. Ask them about "Penny Poor & Richie Rich" and how we learnt that a life full of love and hope and someone to share it with is far more valuable than material possessions.

This painting of Jesus illustrated the message of life filled with joy and riches and helped us think about how there is much more to school life than English and maths.

  • Summer Fayre 2018

    Mon 02 Jul 2018 Mrs J Seker

What a glorious success this year's fayre was! The sun shone as the prosecco flowed and the sausages sizzled! From Punch & Judy to bouncy castles, penalty shoot outs and games galore, it certainly was a fun-filled extravaganza.
Huge thanks go out to the PTA for all of their hard work, with a special mention to Nat, Sarah M, David, Sarah D, Jo, Emma and Hannah for leading the project. It was no mean feat and took many, many hours to plan and prepare but we can all agree, it was brilliantly organised and ran like clockwork. As Mr Punch would say, "That's the way to do it!" There was also a great deal of support in the form of parent, staff and children volunteers as well as all the families who turned out to partake in the fun.
We have yet to tot up the takings but whatever the amount, it will be gratefully received and make an impact on the experiences and enrichment of the children's learning, so thank you!
Several of the raffle prizes were claimed on the day and we have the details of the winners who were not there so will be contacting them very shortly.
Thank you once again to the whole school community for all your support. It is very much appreciated.
