Year 6

Spring Term

Important Dates:

Pioneer Trip          25th-27th March

SATs week            11th May-14th May

Our topic this half-term is the Vikings. We will be investigating the artefacts in art and history and learning more about the Vikings in Britain through our history and geography lessons.

In our English lessons at the beginning of the term, we will also focus on the Vikings, looking at non-fiction reports and creating a report of our own.

We will be working with the sports coach every Friday afternoon to complete a Sports Leader Course. This term our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday.

In Science, we will be learning about plant life and reproduction. We will grow our own plants (cress) in school and it would be wonderful if pupils could grow some plants at home. Apparently most things will grow so it would be good to try as many different ones as possible. Ideas include stones like avocado, plum, mango, garlic, onion, ginger, spice seeds, potatoes, carrot and pineapple tops. If you have anything you think we could plant, please send it into school in a small bag or container and we will see if we can get it to grow. Or give it a try at home.

Homework

  • Independent Tasks: No written homework task this term but we ask if you could encourage pupils to use Spelling shed, Sumdog, TT Rockstars and Spag.com, these sites will have homework periodically.
  • As before, Maths homework will be set weekly. This may be written or computer based.
  • Children will also be expected to read at least 20 pages each week at home from their reading books.
Believe, achieve and shine brighter together.
