Year 6

Autumn Term

Our topic this half term will be 'What did the Ancient Greeks do for us?' We will learn about how the legacy of the Ancient Greeks affects us today with ideas such as The Olympics, mythology, democracy, philosophy and language. We will also study Greek landscape, people and places in geography and Greek pottery in art.

The year 6 team will be Mrs. McVeigh, Mrs. Bond, Mr. Pardoe and Mrs. Graham. We will have 3 groups in English and Maths targeting children of different abilities.


We are looking forward to an exciting year with some great topics, our Pioneer trip, SATs and preparing for secondary school. In no time at all we will find ourselves ending the year with our play, party and church service!


This term we have Forest School. 6 Craufurd begin this Thursday for the next 8 weeks, followed by 6 Field for the following 8 weeks.


We will be working with the sports coach every Friday afternoon to complete a Sports Leader Course. This term our PE days will be Wednesday and Friday.

In Science, we will be learning about electricity: making and drawing circuits and understanding how they work.


  • Independent Task: Find out facts about Greek gods present your information as a Powerpoint, model, drawings, poster, booklet, spreadsheet or however you want.
  • Maths homework will be set weekly. This may be written or computer based.
  • Sumdog and Mathletics are always available.
  • Children will also be expected to read at least 20 pages each week at home from their reading books.
