Additionally, children will have the opportunity to borrow a library book when we visit the library each week, this will be on Thursdays.

WCIT - Recorders *New to Year 2*

The children will be taking part in whole class recorder lessons on Fridays. The recorders will be kept in school every week.

If you wish for your child to take their recorder home, please speak to the class teacher or office staff for further information.

Please bring fresh water from home each day.

Grab Bags

If your child requires a 'Grab Bag' for lunch, please fill in the slip at home if possible. Blank slips can be obtained from any member of staff or in the ‘Grab Bag’ baskets in the classroom.

Our topic this half term is...

'A Twist in the Tale'

In our English lessons we will be starting to add more detail to our sentences, using adjectives and conjunctions to try and up-level our work. We will also be looking at different styles of writing and writing our own set of instructions for making a sandwich using time connectives and 'bossy' verbs. As part of our talk 4 writing we will be writing our own stories based on traditional fairy tales, but as our topic title suggests, there will be a twist! The children will write their own twisted fairytale stories! A fantastic opportunity for children to use their prior knowledge and really let their imagination run wild!

In Maths we will be focusing on place value, addition and subtraction. We will be learning different methods to help us problem solve and we will have the opportunity to do lots of workings out practically. We will also continue developing our reasoning skills as we question answers and prove our findings.

In D&T we will be designing, making and evaluating our own cardboard houses which will be tested for their strength. Can they stand the huffs and puffs of the big bad wolf?!

Homework

Although no formal homework is set in Year 2, we do love to celebrate anything that is created at home. Below are some homework ideas if you wish to do them. Please bring them in to school, so that they can be shown the class and celebrated!!
