The Visionaries

Meet The Visionaries!

We are a new group of fifteen children from Years 4,5 & 6 who are working to embed our school vision across the school. At Oldswinford, we believe that reading, writing and maths are just a part of our learning so we do a great deal of work on developing the 'fullness of life.'

We want to be children who grow into adults that make a difference!

Our vision promotes and encourages:

-spirituality

-creativity

-healthy living

-resilience

-compassion

-happiness

-aspiration

-awe and wonder

-heritage and culture

-emotional intelligence

Our first project has been inspired by the great work carried out by George and the team at 'Giving Hands Mission.' Linked to the Black Country Food Bank, they make a huge difference to homeless people and those in need in the local area.

Ocean and Rafael were lucky enough to meet the Mayor of Dudley at the official opening of the mission's new warehouse. There, they looked at all of the facilities and support on offer and have since been busy making plans about how we can help out. So far, they have plans to help pack and weigh bags as well as leading an assembly to encourage the rest of the school to make Harvest donations that are much needed.

Watch this space to see how we get on!

On Thursday, the visionaries visited Giving Hands mission to lend a hand to George and the team. The minibus was loaded full of our own donations as we didn't want to turn up empty-handed!

We worked hard all afternoon, restacking the shelves which were pretty bare when we arrived. We also helped to pack up ten bags of food, three of which were given to people in need who turned up with vouchers whilst we were there. It felt so good to be helping out and making a difference.

Back in school, we led an assembly, introducing our harvest theme of showing compassion and telling  the whole school about our partnership with the mission and the focus for our harvest donations this year. We can't wait to see how much we can collect on October 5th!

Harvest Update:

As you can see from the reports on the 'Latest News' page, Harvest was a massive success and the Giving Hands Mission was overwhelmed with our carloads of donations!

Because our group is all about IMPACT, we met again recently to discuss how our compassion for local people in need can be sustained. So, we came up with the idea of putting a shopping basket in each classroom and each time it becomes full, we shall deliver it to the mission. Therefore, the visionaries are now on a mission to source shopping baskets from local supermarkets.

Once we have enough, we will put them in the reflection areas in each classroom along with a copy of our prayer.

Our Compassionate Father In Heaven,

Help us to remember the lessons that Jesus taught us about caring and sharing;

Thank you for all the kind and caring people in our community such as George at Giving Hands Mission;

Thank you that we are fortunate enough to have food, shelter and enough love to share;

We pray that everyone here can be caring and generous in their gifts to those in need.

We know that little is much when God is in it.

Amen.

Embracing the fullness of life, embedded in a Christian ethos of caring and sharing.
